Plant-Based Protein Powder Manufacturer
Australia’s Trusted Co-manufacturing Partner for Plant Protein Powder
Maltra Foods is an Australian plant protein powder manufacturer for brands that want vegan protein powders made locally. We produce your existing recipe or create custom formulations from scratch. Every plant based protein powder is made in our HACCP-certified facilities and released with test results you can share.
We have developed powdered sports nutrition products since 1997, for startups and established brands. Need whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate or collagen? See our protein powder manufacturing page.
Quality Assurance, Safety & Manufacturing Excellence
Plant protein buyers want proof before price. Here is how we build quality into every run.
Certifications
Our Victorian and Queensland facilities are HACCP-certified. Our protein powders are made as food under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. Overseas suppliers often promote GMP. In Australia, GMP licensing covers TGA-listed medicines, so protein products sold as food use HACCP instead.
Quality Control and Traceability
Every raw ingredient is traceable from supplier to finished batch. Every batch goes through rigorous quality control before release.
Heavy Metals and Pesticides
Plants absorb minerals from soil, including trace heavy metals such as lead. We reduce this risk by sourcing plant proteins from approved suppliers. Ask us about the testing available for your product.
Blending and Allergen Control
We blend in climate-controlled rooms, which stops powders clumping. Strict ingredient segregation and allergen controls prevent cross-contact. Our premises are nut-free.

HOW WE WORK
Custom Formulations and Private Label
- Custom formulation: our R&D team develops a plant protein formula tailored to your brief and target market.
- Private label: we manufacture it for your brand, from flavour and protein targets to texture, claims, packaging format and commercial production.
No formula yet? Most new brands start with a brief, and we turn it into sample packs you can taste.
Working With an Australian Manufacturer
We partner with retail and foodservice brands across Australia. MOQs vary by product type, format and packaging, so share your brief and we will confirm quantities. A local partner also means shorter lead times and a team that knows Australian labelling rules.
Plant Proteins We Work With
Most vegan protein powders use pea protein as the base, but blends often perform better. We develop plant protein blends using pea, rice and soy proteins.
- Pea protein: made from yellow pea. High in protein, with a distinct taste that needs careful flavour work.
- Rice protein: a neutral taste. Often paired with pea to balance the essential amino acids.
- Faba bean protein: faba beans are a nitrogen fixing crop with a strong sustainability story. Faba bean protein powder has a mild, clean flavour.
- Soy protein isolate: a long-established protein isolate. Soy is a declared allergen, and we also make soy free blends.
- Hemp and pumpkin seed: earthy and high in fibre, for wholefood positioning.
- Tri blend: three plant proteins combined into complete proteins with every essential amino acid.
Taste, Texture and Mixability
A great tasting plant based protein powder brings customers back. The usual complaints about plant protein are a beany taste, grit and poor mixing. We blend for a smooth plant protein texture, mask earthy notes with tailored flavour systems, and shaker-test every sample.
